The Horrifying Truth about the Porn Industry

There is no doubt that pornography is obscene. The idea of filming people performing sexual acts on one another is the essence of perversion. Television and movies have limits to how much of this sort of content is allowed because decent people don’t want to see it.

Some, of course, will argue that it is nothing more than free speech, that it may not be something for everyone, but that doesn’t make it illegal. For years, I granted this argument.

Not anymore.

The problem with this idea is that it assumes everyone on screen is freely consenting to be filmed, is there without coercion, and is receiving just remuneration for their work. Sadly, none of these points are guaranteed. As I discuss in this reflection, there is a direct link between pornography and human trafficking.

Viewer discretion is obviously advised.

  1. So serious, and yet so prevalent in today’s society. Hopefully those who were unaware of the consequences to others, will be made aware. And hopefully those who were aware, and yet continued in this practice, will receive a much-needed wake-up call and change their ways.

  2. There are christian rescue missions that have secure houses for the rescue of such people. But there is not near enough places providing refuge, Some ex trafficked people came and explained everything to our church members. It was very traumatic to hear the stories but people need to know what is going on so they can better protect their young children and teenagers. The national sex trafficking hotline has a text number that people can give them to be rescued if they spot someone but it is dangerous to rescue anyone. Only professional people should do that. Sometimes law enforcement is in on it. Only the victim knows who she can trust and has to work with the National sex trafficking hotline so they can bring in the right people to rescue. Sometimes outside law enforcement has to be brought in. These people walk along beside us sometimes in our neighborhoods and in our everyday life and we don’t even know they are victims. Some fake legitimate jobs like real estate agents etc. and you’d never know they were in the sex trade. There are different levels to it. It’s a very dark business. There was an older man targeting my teenage daughter day after day while catching a city bus trying to get home from school. I was working full time and couldn’t pick her up myself. I had to go send her to live with a relative until I could move out of the neighborhood. I don’t know if he was a bad person but he was way to old to be targeting my daughter for relationship and grooming her and buying gifts and giving her money and rides home and didn’t even speak our language. I suspect he was bilingual but was just being pushy and using language to keep a barrier of non cooperation. My daughter had completely changed her looks with makeup I didn’t buy for her. He had bought it. I didn’t take any chances and got my daughter away where he could not find her and changed towns and school district. My daughter was naive and didn’t see the danger even though we taught her better. These people can be very persuasive and look innocent. Sometimes they have other prostitute women help do the recruiting and pretend these pimps are cute boyfriends and trick young girls, It is more widespread than people realize. The sex trafficker moves them from city to city so they can’t be found and are assigned a number and are forced to change their appearance. Thank goodness I was attentive and didn’t let it happen to my daughter. I didn’t wait for the chance of something happening. I took action as soon as I saw some red flags. The police didn’t help at all. I went through all her school notebooks and destroyed all the phone numbers to friends and contacts and made her start over with all new friends in another town. It sounds extreme but I didn’t want this man finding her through other people. He had learned too much about us. If people knew how these people operate they’d never engage in pornography. They have no regard for life, families, or your children! Sorry this post is so long.

  3. Dear Father,
Your problem with pornography is human trafficking? Not the devient and sinful nature of it? Not the sadistic and hedonistic nature of humanity on display?
Not the destructive nature of this horrid surge on souls? You only had a problem with it when it involved human trafficking and before that it was a “free speech” issue?
You poor man. I wish I could sit down with you and teach you the depths of the Faith and why we believe what we do. I pray you learn your Faith and become the priest that the Holy Father wishes you to be.
    Your brother in Christ

    • While a cradle Catholic drilled in the faith might know it is wrong through the teaching, he is trying to refute society’s justification of it. The biggest selling point of porn is their argument that it is harmless to society and we know this to not be true. As a young man or teen he might not have known and teens especially may question their upbringing. Certainly most people do not know it is tied to trafficking. Sexualization is extreme in our country and children are fed these ideals through TV growing up as children. Some people are exploited as children and made to be confused. Most people do not know all of it is harmful because they grow up inundated with it. Years ago TV was ruled by the Catholic League of Decency and it was not so. But the free speech activists had the Catholic League of Decency removed. People need to be educated just the same. Many Christian counselors will argue that pornography used privately between a married couple in marriage is not wrong. But you are correct in that it is against Catholic doctrine and that it is all the bad things that you said it is. Most Catholics can’t quote scripture much less the Catechism. Do you really think all the teens and twenty somethings got enough training in the church growing up to shield them from public onslaught and to be inoculated against predators? If so the Church wouldn’t have all those lawsuits. My goodness the clothing worn at the oscars is pornography! The emperor has no clothes and no one is saying anything.
