Am I Throwing My Life Away?

Believe it or not, I am told quite often that I am wasting my life as a Franciscan priest. Seeing all that I have to give up, all that I’m missing, religious and non-religious alike find it troubling. In this video, I do my best to respond to this idea, telling the world what I knew even before I joined: this is the best life I could imagine.

  1. Hi Casey! I love the end of this the most! I never doubted that you are living a most-fulfilling life, and I love the way you turned it back to each one of us to look at ourselves. That’s what we should be doing, rather than looking at others and commenting (or judging) about their life course. Thank you for this one, especially for the positive message!!

  2. Wasting your life?!?! I’m sure you will experience many, many events and meet and help many, many people that will enrich your life while you enrich theirs. You’ve enriched mine and I bought one of your books! Bless you and your work.

  3. I am alive due to the intervention of those who cared enough to pick me up when I couldn’t get up on my own. They were not related to me and had no legal obligation to help me. They did it because of their love of Christ. Millions of us owe our lives to disciples like that. Not only did they pick me up, they demonstrated by their actions that I was loved and a child of the Creator. Multiply my joy and gratitude for the last 50 years of my life times that of the others they helped and I would say that is worth something. Alcohol, drugs, money, and sex combined haven’t brought as much life and joy to the world as the love of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Father Cole, Thank you for your daily choice to say yes to Our Father.

  4. Fr. Casey, there is no argument that you have chosen the best part, and nobody can take that away from you.

  5. I’m a Protestant, or at least an Anglican which is close enough. This is one of my favorite broadcasts of yours. You said it well and it needed to be said. God bless you!

  6. You don’t strike me as a serious priest or monk maybe other people see the same thing. You know some religious people receive regular praise, appreciation and aren’t doubted by those they come across
