Usually by the end of August we’re through the worst of it here in Georgia. Not this year. Yesterday, 102°F weather turned our annual cookout into a “cook in,” and today wasn’t much better. All things considered, it might have been the best kickoff to the year we’ve ever had.
Have you been SAVED?
It’s not usually language that we use as Catholics, but that may be something we need to change. Christianity isn’t about devotions or obligations, it’s about a relationship with the one who saves us from sin and death.
The Authority of Peter? (From the vault)
This weekend at mass, we heard Jesus’s powerful words: “You are Peter and upon this rock I will build my church… whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven.” In my homily I said that this does not mean that everything the pope says is infallible, but it also doesn’t mean that we can choose to ignore what the pope says. Here are two videos from years past that speak to that topic.
Do you know the Acts of the Apostles?
If you’ve been coming to mass for any length of time, you probably have a good grasp on the Gospel stories. We’ve heard them plenty of times. But not so with the Acts of the Apostles, a “part 2” of the Gospel of Luke. If you’d like to grow in your understanding of the early Church, I just began praying with Acts on my daily reflection podcast The Word Became Flesh. Join me each day to pray with this great book!
Hoping for some cooler weather soon!
Hope everyone has a great week. Stay safe and stay cool!
Fr. Casey

Padre, try living here in Texas! 102 degrees is a cold day here!
I most definitely had my moment when I was saved without a doubt. It was the night of Oct. 3, 2005 into the morning of Oct. 4th. On the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, my chosen “patron saint”. Coincidence? Definitely not!
Brother Casey, your joy and enthusiasm are infectious but most importantly you communicate deep spiritual truths in a completely comprehensible way.
A cradle Catholic who DID, literally run away at 13 had very little idea that I could be saved.
I can say that now at 69 I’m still being saved on a daily and sometimes hourly basis .
A lightning strike moment 34yers ago did it for me…and the next year or so was a terrible time in my life. In hindsight God turned up in my heart not a moment too soon!
I’m not taking it for granted but I hope I’m STILL being saved right to the end.
Praying for you and grateful for your being saved too!
God Bless
Marg.
It is hot in South Carolina too. Glad to have your newsletter back, it was missed!
Hi Fr Casey
I love watching your videos. I think you are doing a wonderful job!
I have a question. Can you please explain the difference between a priest, friar and a monk?
Thank you,
Theresa
I usually lurk, but I read comments in dread of what they might say sometimes. To everyone who commented, thank you! Father Casey, thank you and thanks to Father Patrick. You two and the people I have met through you have kept my faith in the Church alive. I have a good, and working on great relationship with the Lord, but so many people in churches in my area are ready to argue or take a stance that it has weighed on me. I went to confession and that weight increased. I needed this, today, and I needed the experience I had yesterday in Mass, maybe more than I even was willing to admit. I don’t want a fight. I don’t want to decent against the larger ideas or factions. I wish there weren’t factions. But if people disagree, can’t we have a discussion? Where I listen and you listen and we both come out of the conversation more informed about where the other person is coming from? Sorry for the rant. Thank all of you, again. I also want to know the difference between a Priest, a Monk, and a Friar, by the way. Peace be with you.
